Jenö Lehel

Vernon Wilson Endowed Chair

During the Spring 2007 semester Professor Jenö Lehel was the Vernon Wilson Endowed Chair in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Eastern Kentucky University. He conducted a Seminar in Graph Theory and Combinatorics and hosted a number of invited scholars who came here to present their research to the seminar and collaborate with faculty in the department. Below is a summary of the Wilson Endowment Seminar Series organized by Professor Lehel.

  • January 24-27, Professor Paul-Hermann Zieschang, University of Texas at Brownsville

On Friday January 26, Professor Zieschang gave a talk to the seminar titled The Exchange Condition for Association Schemes (see abstract). The picture on the left was taken during the lecture and photos on the right and below were taken at the reception following the talk.

  • January 26 - February 5, Professor Anthony Hilton, Reading University and Queen Mary University of London

  • February 7-10. Professor Amites Sarkar, The University of Memphis

On Friday, February 9 Professor Sarkar gave a talk to the seminar on The Linus Sequence (see abstract). The picture on the left shows Lucy and Linus helping Amites during their nice presentation of the Linus sequence. Below are some group shots taken at various times during his stay.

  • February 14-18, Professor Gábor Sárközy, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and SZTAKI, Hungary

On Friday, February 16 Professor Sárközy presented his talk on New coloring applications of the Regularity Lemma (see abstract). On the left is Gábor during his talk and below and on the right are shots taken at another Cropper feast.

  • February 26-March 2, Professor Frédéric Maffray, Laboratoire G-SCOP , Grenoble, France

Professor Johnson gave two seminar talks during his stay: On March 27 his talk was on Hall t–chromatic graphs (see abstract) and the second talk on March 29 was on Extending Hall’s theorem into list colorings: a partial history (see abstract). He also gave the invited lecture at Eastern Kentucky University's 21st Annual Symposium in Mathematical, Statistical and Computer Sciences held on March 23. Pictured on the left is Pete giving his first seminar talk. The other pictures were taken during his visit.
